Sonic: The Blue Blur- Episode I Beta Demo Available Now!!!

So we have been developing a fangame based off the archie comics. Originally we were planning a 10 zone full on adventure, but with real life and things, there is a fear that developing a full 10 zones would be tricky, so we are developing this game in episodes, to allow us to be able to take breaks and things while also having things out there. Anyway... that's just background stuff

Now onto the interesting part...

 

Sonic: The Blue Blur

Story
The story takes place on Mobius, which is slowing being completely over taken by an evil genius... know only as Robotnik. He has sent his mechanical army out to destroy the freedom fighters which reside in the Great Forest... One of the few places left on Mobius, that can support natural life. But not for long...

Zones
Great Forest Zone: The place in which the freedom fighters live and plan their attacks on Robotropolis. But even this safe place can still be infiltrated by Robotnik
This zone features simple but fast paced gameplay, featuring shorter levels and fewer traps than the next zones. A good starting zone for people even new to classic Sonic

Demo Coming soon... (Hopefully)

Scorching Sands: An area of land that used to be covered in snow, But Robotniks pollution has caused global warming to completely melt away the snow and to created a desert wasteland
Slightly longer acts with the first encounters of the main villain of the game. Filled with quicksand and other traps, you better watch out
Fun Fact: Based off Sonic 2s Dust Hill

Glacial Glide: What Scorching Sands used to be, the last remaining snowy areas on Mobius, quickly melting away
Interesting ice gimmicks and of course, the standard water levels, don't slip...
Fun Fact: Based off Sonic 2s Winter zone

Casino Chaos: Well how else is Robotniks going to make his money... A giant casino open to everyone, where the odds are always in his favour... But those who do win, often end up with a few "upgrades"
The story really starts to pick up as the adventure reaches its climax

The Great Gamble: This is it, the final showdown in the vault, filled with gold and money... And a trap lying in wait

Sucks that it's hard finding those comics but 

I'm happy to help out on your game. I might do a final touch up on the background (it feel like it still need some more work on) and then I'll send you the BG in pieces. Also I'll put a little thing in the sprite sheet where if you want, you may change the colors on your zone anyway you want (on all sprite sheets).

Spykid, good game!

Some improvements:

  • Change the resolution to 320X240 or 320X224.
  • Make more creative zone names, rather that Sonic 2 Beta Zones. (Especially the one-word zone names e.g. Rock Zone, Winter Zone)
  • Remove the "The" in The Great Forest Zone.
  • Make 9 acts to all zones...  :cool:

well I am trying to closely follow the comics but as one of the comics is sonic 2s story, but everyone has played these levels before, so the beta ones not so much. But I will definitely have a look at changing some of the names.

 

And the only reason one level has 9 acts is because it is featured 3 times separately lol.

 

The resolution I haven't even looked at yet, but will definitely take a look into before SAGE.

We are going to SAGE. A demo is a maybe but I will certainly be showcasing our complete soundtrack along with concepts, screenshots, videos and a proper announcement on this. I will also be looking for someone to help me on the programming side of things.

Pre-SAGE post

 

A few points for SAGE...

The complete OST will be made available on the site, so if you have not downloaded it yet, you will have plenty more opportunities. 

 

The demo will only be made available to staff members of the project. This includes:

A load of non sonic united people

 

A demo may be released after SAGE is over, depending on feedback and general progress.

 

Expect videos, mockups and screenshots this SAGE

 

Also, I am still looking for a MMF2/CF2.5 Programmer.

I'd change the palette a little bit. It looks more "Ice Palace" than "Hidden Palace".
...or make it an Ice Palace instead. Fuck da police!

I hope you enjoyed our "Playable teaser" (I like that one :))

 

Now there will not be another demo for quite a while now... However, I will be constantly updating this thread...

 

And as people enjoyed the Soundtrack so much... I have a little bonus...

Just played the demo since I just came from vacay.

 

It is in need of serious work. Like really.

First off, you need to work on your level design, there are absolutely no challenges and not even 1 badnik in sight, and there is no sense of speed or alternate routes available. This is definitely not sonic-like at all. The level is basically hold right and jump a few times, the level.

At least it is wayy better than sonic 4 remastered.

 

(Also you left debug capabillities in your game. Might want to turn it off)

1) Yes i know... a Proof of Concept demo really doesnt mean that anything you see is going to be in it :P

2) Badniks have not been added yet, along with rings, power-ups and scenery

3) I can count alternate routes at the beginning, and there are a few hidden alternate paths, you have got to jump at the most bizarre moments to find them...

4) This is one of the first levels... you would be complaining if it was too hard :P

5) And dont worry... the level design gets better from the concepts

 

And I hope you had a nice vacation (Im assuming it was a vacation)
