The Reviews Are In!(Unfortunately…)
November 11, 2014- Three notable video games were released. Even though today we’re only focusing on two of them*. Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric and Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal were released. Metacritic has given the metascore for the game. So in no particular order:
Hardcore Gamer: 5.0 “Sadly, it’s apparent the blue blur is still stuck running in place”
IGN: 4.3 “Rise of Lyric is so aggressively mediocre that slowing Sonic down is really the least of its sins”
Slant Magazine: 5.0 “It’s an extraordinarily bad sign when the television show based off a video game is better than the source material itself”
Game Informer: 4.0 “No matter how fast he sprints, Sonic just can’t seem to outrun the curse that follows him from game to game”
GameSpot: 2.o “Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric is a failure at some basic levels of gaming”
Metascore: 3.9
I was hoping that this game would be the one that escapes the realm of mixed reviews. The fact that there’s a larger set of characters seemed exciting, and the story seemed so good. It surprises me that a trailer gets away with making combat seem exciting when it’s tedious. Granted, I never played it myself. But this game has a 39 metacritic score, making it the lowest rated current Wii U game. The next worst candidate would be Cubemen 2, which got a 69! Not even close! I am truly dissapointed considering that this game has been started in 2011, and the idea for it came up in 2008! I think that the problem is that, Big Red Button hasn’t made any games yet. And this is their first time. I think Sega should have considered this when picking an outside developer. It’s too late now though. So I think that Sega should do some research next time they pick an outside developer. I think they’re on the right path though.
*For those of you wondering, the other game is Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.
